Electrical and Electronic Systems

This system has been specifically designed to provide a hands-on training facility that covers AC/DC circuits, electromagnetics, semi-conductor fundamentals, electronic circuits and digital electronics.

Troubleshooting techniques are taught using switched faults, providing hands-on experience of standard industrial troubleshooting procedures. The student uses hand-held test meters and an oscilloscope for troubleshooting and system signal measurements.

Based around a computer-linked panel that provides a complete simulation of a vehicle ignition system, this module enables students to learn the principles of automotive ignition systems. The panel trainer incorporates an engine rotation simulator with a crankshaft, connecting rod and piston. Sensors are provided for crankshaft/camshaft position, profile ignition pickup and cylinder identification. LEDs simulate spark plugs and a special timing light is provided on-board.

The electronic ignition system represented on the board is a two coil “wasted spark” type with a single microcontroller providing the operating facilities of the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and Engine Control Module (ECM) as found in many vehicle systems.

This module provides a computer-linked simulator panel that enables students to learn the principles of electrical accessories. The system even includes on-board diagnostics and displayed fault codes that enable students to troubleshoot the cruise control and trip computer.

An easily understood schematic system representing the basic electrical components of an automobile is screen-printed on the panel front. From this the student is able to see the exact operation of the various circuits and can gain a hands-on introduction to each of the components and devices found in typical systems.
