The Living with Science Programme

The National Science Education Standards call for more 'science as process', in which students learn such skills as observing, inferring, and experimenting. They place inquiry as being central to science learning.

Through a process of inquiry, students describe objects and events, ask questions, construct explanations, test those explanations against current scientific knowledge and communicate their ideas to others.

They identify their assumptions, use critical and logical thinking, and consider alternative explanations. In this way, students actively develop their understanding of science by combining scientific knowledge with reasoning and thinking skills.

The design of the Living with Science program matches exactly with this philosophy and it provides a complete resource that allows you to deliver an elementary science program that engages students in the scientific process and helps them develop the skills of inquiry and problem solving.

The National Curriculum and the QCA (Qualifications Curriculum Authority) calls for more emphasis on scientific enquiry and an increase in practical activities for Primary Science teaching.

Living with Science provides a complete mobile resource that can be used to support the teaching of Science at Key Stage 2.

It provides an ideal resource that can be used by specialist Science schools to help their feeder primary schools introduce ICT in Science at Key Stage 2.

All the teaching material is delivered using dynamic multimedia computer aided instruction. This incorporates continuous assessment and links directly to printed experiment sheets that are completed by the students as they perform their experiments.

All the hands-on experiments are supported by specially designed apparatus that is managed by a system of numbered storage trays supplied in a large mobile trolley.

Teachers are able to use the materials for whole class teaching using a data projector and our optional virtual whiteboard and wireless classroom assessment system. This creates an exciting interactive learning environment where whole class groups are able to interact with the computer-based presentations.

How Does Living with Science Work?

Living with Science provides stuctured support for existing science teaching in the elementary grades.primary schools. We have four modules with 64 assignments covering the grade levels 1-4.Key Stage 2.
